About us

Two decades of caring for Mwandi's children.

Since 2004, Mwandi OVC Project has worked alongside families and the community to give vulnerable children a brighter future.

Our story

A community-led response to a community-wide need.

Mwandi OVC Project began as a small, community-based initiative and has grown into a trusted organization supporting hundreds of children each year through education, nutrition, healthcare, social and spiritual support, alongside social enterprises that sustain our work.

What drives us

Mission, aims & objectives.

We shall promote an environment in which Orphans and Vulnerable Children are cared for and supported bodily, mentally, socially, morally, spiritually and with an emphasis on education, nutrition and social support to facilitate a meaningful life.

Our aims

  • To provide high quality services to the Orphans and Vulnerable Children of Mwandi, Sikuzu and Sooka Communities.
  • To facilitate the co-ordination and harmonization of activities for the care, protection and support of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children of Mwandi, Sooka and Sikuzu.
  • To strengthen the capacity of families and community to cope with the burden of, and provide sufficient care and support to, Orphans and Vulnerable Children.
  • To encourage community participation, empowerment and ownership of the project in the mitigation of the social impact of HIV/AIDS on the Orphans and Vulnerable Children.
  • To create an environment where Orphans and Vulnerable Children are supported, cared for and developed so they realise their full potential.

Our objectives

  • To empower our Orphans and Vulnerable Children and their families with knowledge and life skills through practical activities.
  • To provide recreational facilities.
  • To provide support to Orphans and Vulnerable Children nutritionally, educationally and medically.
  • To provide psycho-social support to guardians and caregivers.
  • To distribute clothing, blankets and other social support.
  • To provide a clean and safe environment for our Orphans and Vulnerable Children, staff and volunteers.
  • To provide counselling and guidance to children and families.
  • To provide HIV/AIDS education and support.
  • To promote national and international exchange programmes to build up the sharing of experiences and best practices.
  • To facilitate support for the care, protection and growth of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in a direct manner, so they understand their rights and responsibilities and can achieve their full potential.
