Safeguarding
Protecting children is at the heart of everything we do.
Our Commitment to Child Protection
Child safety is the foundation on which every other outcome depends. A child who feels safe at home is better positioned to learn. A child who feels protected at school is more likely to stay in school. A child who is safe in their community can hold on to and build on the progress they have already made.
That is why safeguarding at Mwandi OVC Project is not a document we file away. It is a daily practice, shaped together with the families, schools, churches and local leaders who know Mwandi's children best. Protection that lasts is protection built with the community, not delivered to it.
Investing in child protection is also investing in long-term community resilience. Children who grow up safe become adults who are healthier, more financially secure and more engaged in the life of their community. The benefits ripple far beyond the individual child into families, schools, churches and the whole of Mwandi.
Children and young people are not passive recipients of protection, they help shape it. They contribute to community protection mapping, take part in awareness campaigns and, when they understand their rights, become the most powerful advocates for their own safety. We take that seriously, and we build it into every program we run.
At Mwandi OVC Project, safeguarding is woven through everything we do, education, nutrition, healthcare, social and spiritual support, because keeping a child safe requires all of these working together. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, every single day.
Our approach works across three interconnected levels:
- 1
Strengthening families and caregivers by investing in their knowledge, skills, wellbeing and economic stability, so the first line of protection is strong.
- 2
Building community protection systems, both informal and formal, that make safeguarding sustainable, visible and self-reinforcing at the local level.
- 3
Advancing policy and systems change by working with local authorities and national partners to shape the laws, policies and institutions that make lasting protection possible.
